AlterNATIVE Indigenous Film Series

EMMEDIA is proud to present another edition of AlterNATIVE for the Umbrella Visual Arts Conference 3, showcasing the rich landscape of works produced by Indigenous artists. For this edition, Danielle Black has curated “A Celebration of 2-spirit and IndigiQUEERS Through Film and Performance.”  The evening will host a screening of works by local and national 2-spirited and IndigiQUEER artists, with three performances by musician Riel, poet Joshua Whitehead, and hoop dancer Jessica McMann. THE FRIDAY EVENT IS SOLD OUT. There will be a first come, first serve wait list, once registered guests are seated. Guests who have registered are required to show up at least 10 minutes before screening time for guaranteed seating, otherwise seats may be given to those on the waiting list.

A full day of inspiring and engaging activities, including Conversation Catalysts who will sit with all attendees to invite and respect all voices. Our conversation catalysts represent a diverse and knowledgeable sampling of Calgary’s accomplished and emerging arts and community leaders and practitioners, including Mel Vee, Spirit River L. Striped Wolf, Danielle Black, Ami Kenzo, Teresa Tam, Michelangela Samiadji and Su Ying Strang.
