Elephant Artist Relief Society (EAR) helps artists mitigate crisis, creating a financial bridge over troubled waters, and laying the course back to making art.
This is our call out for help so that we can respond to others in their time of need.
EAR provides financial assistance in the case of a medical, financial or personal emergency. For ten years EAR has served visual artists that have, for example, been struck with illness or catastrophe. Three years ago, the organisation launched an assistance program to support artists from other disciplines, with hopes of offering this fund for years to come. Our services include hosting workshops and discussions surrounding professional development and wellness issues specific to artists’ needs.
EAR’s relief funds are mainly financed by self-generated revenues. We are grateful for the incredible support of Calgary’s arts community which has lent to the growing profile of our organisation. Awareness, and hardship prompted by the economic downturn, has led to an upsurge in appeals. This ongoing web-based campaign is intended to reach further afield with aims of replenishing and sustaining both relief funds.
